A nursing home that instituted a unique infection control strategy reduced its methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus transmission rate by 82% in less than three years. The secret: daily use of antimicrobial wipes and regular resident baths, according to a recent study. The discovery offers “a potentially promising intervention to reduce MRSA transmission and improve patient safety,” said Michelle Farber, RN, 2012 President of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology. Full findings were presented June 5 at the APIC annual conference in San Antonio.
