Clorox Healthcare’s first sporicidal solution, Clorox Healthcare Spore Defense Cleaner Disinfectant, is now available for the Clorox Total 360 System, an electrostatic sprayer that provides disinfecting coverage in the hardest-to-reach places.

The new disinfectant is a low-fragrance bleach that kills Clostridium difficile — in addition to 42 other pathogens — in five minutes. It can be used in sensitive patient settings. The product offers a facility-wide solution by ensuring C. diff spores and other pathogens are killed on hard, non-porous surfaces in patient rooms and on transport equipment often missed during manual cleaning.

Proper disinfection of patient rooms and portable and shared medical equipment are an important component of infection prevention as this equipment frequently becomes contaminated with healthcare-associated pathogens. Transport equipment such as beds and wheelchairs often have irregular and difficult-to-clean surfaces that make manual cleaning and disinfection challenging.

The Clorox Total 360 electrostatic sprayer charges and atomizes Clorox Healthcare Spore Defense Cleaner Disinfectant to deliver a powerful flow of particles that are attracted to surfaces with a force stronger than gravity. Findings from the Cleveland VA Medical Center showed the Clorox Total 360 System with Spore Defense was just as effective as bleach wipes in reducing C. diff spores inoculated on wheelchairs but could be applied in one-fourth of the time, providing healthcare facilities with a rapid and effective means to reduce spore contamination on surfaces like never before.
