A Pennsylvania long-term care provider has agreed to a new contract that will pay most certified nursing assistants $15 an hour within five years.

The move by Golden Living came as New York and California enacted living wage legislation, though efforts to up the minimum wage in Pennsylvania remain stagnant.

Golden claims increasing pay will benefit employees, reduce turnover and help enhance quality of care for residents.

Golden Living has more than 34,000 residents and 5,300 employees at 36 centers in Pennsylvania.
