America's oldest citizen, 114-year-old Mary Josephine Ray, died Sunday at the Maplewood County Nursing Home in Westmoreland, NH.

Born in Canada on May 17, 1895, Ray moved to the U.S. at the age of three. She spent roughly 60 years in Maine before moving to Florida, Massachusetts and eventually New Hampshire, according to The Associated Press. She moved to an assisted living facility for the last part of her life after living independently for the vast majority of her years.

She was the second oldest person in the world, having been born just seven days after current record holder Kama Chinen of Japan, according to the Gerontology Research Group. The title of oldest living person in the U.S. now belongs to Neva Morris of Ames, IA, who is 114 years, 218 days. Ray will be buried in Madison, ME, alongside her husband, Walter, who died 43 years ago.
