The Alliance for Quality Nursing Home Care is launching a new ad campaign to remind lawmakers that skilled nursing and rehabilitation service facilities are the second-largest health facility employer in the United States.

The ads will run in Washington, D.C.-area policy publications starting this week, and then cycle through publications in state capitals throughout the rest of February. Last month, the group released a study showing that skilled nursing and rehabilitation facilities employ 1.7 million Americans and generate over $200 billion annually in national economic activity. In light of President Obama’s proposed FY 2012 budget, the group said it wants Obama and Congress to preserve existing levels of Medicare and Medicaid funding.

“Medicare and Medicaid funding are inextricably linked, and the combination of cumulative cuts to both programs has squeezed local facilities in a manner that is harmful to beneficiaries’ care needs, our local economies and the caregiver jobs base,” said Alliance President Alan G. Rosenbloom.
