Nonprofit nursing home workers have higher levels of satisfaction with their facilities than their for-profit counterparts, according to a new report.

Nearly 16,000 nursing home workers from 266 nursing homes responded to a survey on patient safety culture, conducted by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality. The survey queried workers in all areas about several safety components. Roughly a third of all nursing homes are nonprofit, but about half of the survey’s respondents were at nonprofit facilities.

Employees were asked about training procedures, safety protocols, comfort in reporting safety breaches and adequate staffing ratios, The New York Times reported. A solid 80% of nonprofit respondents said they would recommend their facility to a friend, while 72% of for-profit workers responded the same. Sixty-six percent of nonprofit workers rated their employer as “excellent” or “very good” on safety overall, compared to 57% of for-profit employees, according to the report.
