Merck releases new manual on health and aging
Drug maker Merck & Co. has published a new how-to guide on aging for seniors and caregivers, describing common ailments and memory lapses. "The Merck Manual of Health & Aging" aims to reduce stress for caregivers and offers advice on preventive health measures.
AARP published a report in April that found 35% of caregivers said their health was only fair or poor, about four times the percentage in the general population.
"There's a tremendous need for it just because we have an exploding aging population and an exploding number of caregivers," said Dr. Joanne Schwartzberg, director of the American Medical Association's aging and community health department.
