McKnight’s Long-Term Care News earned top regional honors for its news coverage in the 2022 Azbee Awards competition. 

The publication’s total included a Gold and two Silver awards, as well as a shared Bronze. The competition covered the Upper Midwest Region for the national journalism competition sponsored by the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News is also a finalist in two categories in the national stage of the Azbee Awards, which will be announced May 12.

The McKnight’s family of publications earned 10 regional awards overall at an awards ceremony held in Chicago.

“It’s fantastic to see that year after year, McKnight’s is continually honored for delivering such highly respected digital, print and custom news and analysis,” said McKnight’s Vice President and Editorial Director John O’Connor. 

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News won Gold for Best News Section in the print publication category.  Staff Writer Danielle Brown, Senior Editor Kimberly Marselas, Art Director Mark Speakman and Executive Editor James M. Berklan were cited.

One Silver Award came for Best Online Breaking News coverage, for reporting on the federal government’s pursuit of staff COVID-19 vaccine mandates. “Staff vaccine mandates rock industry” was produced by Brown, Marselas and Berklan.

The other Silver Award was for the publication’s “Mood of the Market” survey coverage, which was presented by Art Director Mark Speakman and Berklan.

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News and McKnight’s Senior Living also shared a Bronze Award in the Best Special Supplement for the jointly published Tech Supplement. The publication was overseen by McKnight’s Senior Living Editor Lois A. Bowers. Others credited were Speakman, Content Editor Kimberly Bonvissuto, writers Amy Novotney and Rachael Zimlich, and O’Connor.

McKnight’s Senior Living also earned a pair of Silvers and a Bronze of its own, while McKnight’s Home Care took home a Gold and two Bronzes.

The 2022 class lifts McKnight’s Long-Term Care News’ ASBPE award totals to 55 at the regional level. 

The focus next shifts to the national stage, where McKnight’s Long-Term Care News has previously earned 23 awards. This year it has two finalists (for Best Print News Section and Best Original Research).

McKnight’s Senior Living also has two entries up for national awards, and McKnight’s Home Care is also up for one.

ASBPE’s Azbee Awards of Excellence program honors deserving business-to-business, trade, association and professional publications. The awards recognize outstanding work by magazines and digital media including websites, e-newsletters, digital magazines, social media and blogs.
