A pair of McKnight’s publications have added seven journalism awards to their collections with Thursday’s announcement of winners of the 31st annual Awards for Publication Excellence.

The annual competition drew almost 1,300 entries from all over the world, according to APEX organizers.

McKnight’s Long-Term Care News won four awards, including:

  • A Grand Award for Writing for Editorial Director John O’Connor’s “The Big Picture” column in the print magazine
  • An Award of Excellence for the editorial staff in the Magazines, Journals & Tabloids-Writing category.
  • An Award of Excellence for Writing for Executive Editor James M. Berklan and contributor Kimberly Marselas for their series of stories on the Patient-Driven Payment Model.
  • An Award of Excellence in the Writing–Regular Departments & Columns category for “Rehab Realities” blog writer Renee Kinder.

Sister title McKnight’s Senior Living also earned three Awards of Excellence: 

  • O’Connor in the Social Media–Best Series of Blog Posts category for his online blogs
  • Editor Lois A. Bowers, O’Connor and Art Director Mark Speakman in the Best Websites 1-2 Person Produced category.
  • Bowers in the Writing–Regular Departments & Columns category for her Editor’s Column in the print magazine.
