Providers’ labor woes continued this month, with close to nearly 39,000 job openings posted in August.

That’s an increase of 1,600 job openings in nursing homes, assisted living and continuing care retirement communities, according to data from the research and advisory company Gartner TalentNeuron.

The jobs had been posted for an average of 30 days this month, the firm found. More employers are competing for candidates directly, with a modest increase between July and August.

“Finding qualified employees is one of the greatest challenges facing long-term care providers and labor statistics prove that the challenge continues in a strong economy with a low unemployment rate,” the American Health Care Association said in a blog post.
