A resident of a Rochester, NY, area nursing home who had been recently diagnosed with Legionnaires’ disease, has died.

The victim was a resident of The Friendly Home, Brighton, NY. New York State Health Department officials have said they do not know if Legionnaire’s was the cause of death and are awaiting a report from local county medical examiner. Legionnaires’ disease is a bacterial disease which is not transmitted from person to person.

A recent outbreak of Legionnaire’s disease at a Toronto nursing home claimed 17 lives, the last of whom died last week. The outbreak affected residents and employees, and despite earlier assurances otherwise, it is believed to have stricken a pair of individuals who did not enter the facility.
