With Congress back in session, House Republicans are back at trying to repeal the Affordable Care Act’s disability insurance benefit.
The House Ways & Means Committee is scheduled to mark up — that is amend or make adjustments to — H.R. 1173, the Fiscal Responsibility and Retirement Security Act, according to a report from The Hill.
H.R. 1173 repeals the Community Living Assistance Services and Supports program (CLASS) Act. The committee is meeting Wednesday morning to begin the mark up process.
The Obama administration shelved the CLASS Act program in October after actuaries working for the Department of Health and Human Services said they couldn’t find a way to make it financially solvent. While the administration acknowledges that CLASS is not viable in its current form, President Obama, other Democrats and disability advocates argue that it provides a framework for future revisions.
