Hospitals slam MedPAC's plan
Rick Pollack, AHA President and CEO
The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission's proposed unified post-acute payment system is “unworkable as a foundation,” the American Hospital Association said in September.
The lobbying group sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, expressing concerns that the prototype uses outdated and “flawed” Post-Acute Care Payment Reform Demonstration data. Its comments also balked at the plan's regression-based design.
AHA encouraged CMS to engage in a “transparent” development process for the new system, using the most up-to-date cost data.
