Guidance for states considering implementing a Medicaid block grant system could be days away.

The Trump Administration is planning to release the guidance this month, The Wall Street Journal recently reported. The American Health Care Association told McKnight’s Tuesday that it will be reviewing the guidance once it is issued.

News of the release follows the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in November withdrawing its proposed guidance on block grant programs after it was taken under consideration by the White House Office of Management and Budget. CMS Administrator Seema Verma had announced the proposed guidance plans earlier that same month.

States would receive a fixed amount of Medicaid funding under a block grant system, which could result in a funding limit for nursing providers. Providers have strongly opposed block grant efforts in the past.

Tennessee officials recently submitted a first-of-its-kind proposal to convert its Medicaid program into a block grant system.
