The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has awarded a $270,000 grant to the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe to build a nursing home and assisted living facility on the tribe’s reservation in Eagle Butte, SD. The nearest nursing home to the reservation is 60 miles away.

“For decades, tribal elders from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe had to move off the reservation to receive nursing home care when their families could no longer care for them,” said CMS Administrator Mark McClellan

The funding also will provide for a nursing facility administrator to assist the tribe with creating and implementing resident care and financial management.
