Eight of the top 10 top nursing home operators are based in the states of New York and Pennsylvania, with Genesis continuing to command the market, according to a new analysis of  the nation’s nursing homes.

“The northeast clearly dominates for nursing home availability,” Jack Schember, director of marketing for IQVIA told McKnight’s.

IQVIA, a consulting firm, compiled its list using the commercial reference database OneKey, which pulls information from multiple sources. Genesis sits at the top spot with 426 skilled nursing facilities. Rounding out the top five are HCR Manorcare in Toledo, OH (239); Cleveland, TN, Life Care Centers of America (214); Atlanta’s Sava Senior Care (201); and Ensign Group in Mission Viejo, CA (169).

The report also lists percentage of facilities by services. Interestingly, Schember added, about 93% have a pharmacy onsite and 83% offer podiatry care.

Other information detailed in the 2018 U.S. Nursing Home Market Summary include the top 18 occupations at SNFs (medical director is No. 1, with more than 14,000 such professionals), and the biggest individual homes by bed count. That list is led by Coler Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, in Roosevelt Island, NY, with 987 beds. It’s followed by the Fair Acres Geriatric Center, in Media, PA, with 908 beds, and Riverspring Health, in the Bronx, with 845 beds.
