People who are vaccinated against the flu are 24% less likely to suffer a stroke during that flu season, say British researchers who analyzed records of nearly 50,000 patients.
Those who were vaccinated early in the season had the strongest likelihood of experiencing this “highly significant association,” said investigators from the University of Lincoln and the University of Nottingham. They compared records over an eight-year period.
The analysis did not attempt to explain why the link exists, researchers pointed out. Previously, they linked lower risk of heart attack to those who had received a flu shot.
