A 66-year-old Michigan nursing home resident suspected in last week’s death of a fellow resident will undergo evaluations, Berrien County prosecutors announced.

Police say David Wall interrupted a discussion 83-year-old Floyd Perham was having with nursing home personnel at the West Woods of Bridgman Nursing Home in Bridgman and pushed him to the floor on January 23. Perham suffered a head injury and died two days later at Lakeland Medical Center in St. Joseph.

Berrien County Prosecutor Michael Sepic said Wednesday that his office will decide whether to criminally charge Wall after evaluations of the suspect are complete. Results probably will not be available until March, he added.

“While criminal charges of assault or manslaughter may be appropriate in an incident such as this, evaluations of the suspect … are ongoing and those results are needed to finally determine if criminal charges are appropriate,” Sepic said in a statement.
