A Pennsylvania nursing home failed to intervene when a nurse began acting erratically in the days before killing herself and a resident last November, according to a lawsuit filed Friday in Lackawanna County Court.
The complaint cites police interviews with workers at Abington Manor in Clarks Summit, news sources reported. These workers stated that licensed practical nurse Aimee Larkin was acting “strange” prior to the shootings, and that “everyone” knew she kept a gun in the car, local newspaper the Times-Tribune reported. One employee said Larkin had been “very hyper and rambling on” and another said she was “very mad” on the day of the incident. She reportedly got into an altercation with a coworker over “rumors” that were being spread.
The son of victim Howard Kinney charges that management at the facility should have protected residents from Larkin, and also that Kinney’s care was substandard, according to the Times-Tribune. The suit seeks more than $50,000 on each of four counts.
Genesis Healthcare owns Abington, a 120-bed facility. The company cannot comment on pending litigation, a Genesis spokeswoman told McKnight’s.
