The Eden Alternative, a culture-change long-term care program, has announced the acquisition of Lifespan Network’s Wellspring Program.

The consolidation is “clear evidence for the growing need and market for an all-encompassing culture change organization that can address both the clinical and cultural changes required to deliver person-directed care,” said Eden Alternative founder Bill Thomas, M.D.

Both programs began in the 1990s to promote improved clinical care and individual care plans for residents, and Lifespan Network’s Beacon Institute began operating Wellspring in 2008.

Eden Alternative facilities report, on average, fewer turnovers, less antipsychotic use, and fewer deficiencies. More than 200 nursing homes in the U.S. are Eden Alternative facilities.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
