Show-tune sing-alongs are an effective form of dementia care, new research suggests.

George Mason University researchers studied two groups of people with dementia at an East Coast facility. One group sang along with classic show tunes during 50-minute sessions three times a week, and the other just listened.

The singers' performance on cognitive tests improved over the course of four weeks, while the listeners' did not, the researchers discovered. They presented at the recent Society for Neuroscience meeting in San Diego.
