» Optimus EMR announced it will include INTERACT 3.0 in upcoming release. The tool will be an embedded part of its Clinical Decision Support Module. Customers attending the Optimus Information Exchange in October will be able to hear additional details. 

» Medtronic, a global medical device maker, announced plans to purchase Covidien for $42.9 billion. Covidien shareholders will be paid $93.22 per share, and the combined company will be based in Ireland. 

» PDI has made educational and product enhancements for its Sani-Hands® Instant Hand Sanitizing Wipes. These include a Patient Hand Hygiene Education Video, with narration and graphics to explain how, when and why patients should clean their hands. The company also announced it had put Sani-Hands into a new 70% ethyl alcohol formulation for products that include the Sani-Hands individual packets and canister products. The wipes are now provided in a 2000-count bulk package to encourage point-of-use dispensing.

» Medi-Dose/EPS announced the debut of MILT 4, a new 64-bit compatible version of industry labeling and bar coding software. The custom-written program was designed to help healthcare professionals “clearly identify and easily bar code” all medications. Users can choose 1-D or 2-D bar codes, graphics, special fonts, shapes, logos and symbols on the labels.

» MDI Achieve/MatrixCare has entered into a partnership agreement with LabSoft that will allow integration between lab and imaging data and MatrixCare EHR. The integration will help MatrixCare clients reduce errors and increase efficiency, the company said.

» PointClickCare has set up a Mobile Practitioner Engagement Solution to enhance care coordination. Practitioners can now view charts, co-sign orders and conduct secure, HIPAA-compliant mobile conversations. Staff can do this through their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices. The Practitioner Engagement solution has features that include PointClickCare Secure Conversations, which allows clinicians to contact practitioners via texting.
