» Alana Healthcare has continued to partner with skilled nursing facilities in the Southeast as it transitions from a durable medical equipment supplier to a healthcare management company. Its chronic obstructive pulmonary disease program has helped SNFs reduce hospital readmissions 73%, according to the company.  

» BHI Senior Living, a nonprofit owner/operator of three continuing care retirement communities, worked with Ziegler to close on $22 million in tax-exempt, fixed rate bonds. The proceeds will help fund construction on all three campuses.

» Ensign Group, Kindred Healthcare and Skilled Healthcare Group are among the “most vulnerable” stocks identified by analyst Robert Mains of Stifel Nicolaus. He said Congress’s proposed new system for setting the Medicare physician payment rate would likely mean reimbursement cuts to post-acute providers, creating “headline risk” for these three companies.

» Aviv REIT acquired a skilled nursing facility in Texas for $3.5 million on Sept. 3. The property is leased to Trinity Healthcare, which operates three SNFs in Texas.
