Senior living and care operator Ecumen has acquired an antibiotic and infection control surveillance tool developed in part by an employee and is marketing the product to other providers nationally.
Abxtracker software, developed by Matt Just, director of clinical data solutions for Ecumen, and others, is designed specifically for use in the long-term care industry. The technology, aligned with Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services regulations, first was developed to address antibiotic stewardship, according to Ecumen.
“Beyond antibiotics, the abxtracker technology has expanded to infection control surveillance, which allows clinical teams to identify infection trends in real time and implement precautions to reduce the chance of spreading infections,” the Shoreview, MN-based not-for-profit provider said in a recent statement.
The technology can track COVID-19 and other viral, fungal or bacterial infections, such as influenza and norovirus, among residents and staff members. It is the first tech tool in a planned suite of technology solutions for improving resident outcomes and quality of life, Ecumen added.
