The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has released a toolkit to help post-acute and long-term care facility operators improve vaccination coverage among their healthcare personnel.

The toolkit offers strategies for increasing vaccination coverage, including education and promotional tools such as fact sheets and videos, and emphasizes tracking and monitoring vaccinations during a flu season.

Although there is no mandate to report flu vaccination coverage data in post-acute and long-term care facilities, the agency encourages operators to use the National Healthcare Safety Network’s LTC model, even if not required to do so.

Collecting and monitoring data can reveal trends, and “may assist the facility in identifying unvaccinated healthcare personnel and tailoring educational efforts and vaccination programs to reach these individuals,” it stated. “Facilities can also use the data for strengthening quality improvement activities.”

Post-acute and LTC facilities first must enroll in NHSN to begin reporting healthcare personnel flu vaccination data.
