» Emeritus Senior Living recently said it wants to hire 1,000 veterans by 2018. The assisted living and skilled nursing provider says this is the first such veteran recruiting program in senior care. Emeritus has identified a wide range of positions veterans may be qualified for, including resident care director and driver. 

» Acute-care provider Allina Health and skilled nursing providers Benedictine Health System and Presbyterian Homes & Services have created a transition care partnership. To bring down rehospitalizations, the systems will provide therapy for discharged Allina patients in spa-like centers. The first two will open in Minnesota. 

» Health Care REIT Inc. ended 2012 with a successful fourth quarter, seeing profits triple year-over-year. It completed $1.6 billion in senior housing investments that quarter. The company expects a 2013 dividend payment rate of $3.06 per share, a 3.4% increase from 2012 payments.

» Investment firm TPG acquired Assisted Living Concepts for $287 million. ALC has been led by former AHCA President and CEO Charles Roadman, M.D., since May 2012.
