Nursing homes nationwide would face, on average, an $18.45 per-patient-day cut in Medicare assistance under President Bush’s fiscal year 2009 budget proposal, a new analysis from the American Health Care Association shows.

Those states to suffer the most financially by the proposed cuts would be California ($22.47 per patient day), New Jersey ($21.88ppd) and Nevada ($21.13ppd). The AHCA compiled the analysis using data from Bush’s FY 2009 budget collected by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).

Commenting on the findings, AHCA President and CEO Bruce Yarwood speculated that more and more lawmakers would reject Bush’s budget proposal once they understand its effect on residents.
