Alleged gun-toting clown indicted
The latest act in an ongoing circus around a gun-toting clown who robbed a nursing home played out in federal court Tuesday.
Morgan Marie Mullins, 26, of Hamlin, WV, was indicted by a grand jury on six counts, including federal armed robbery. Mullins is accused of a robbing the Genesis HealthCare-owned facility Teays Valley Center nursing home, located in Hurricane, WV, on May 2.
Original reports said the robber was a man. But Mullins, who worked at the nursing home, is alleged to have disguised herself with a clown mask, and faked a Hispanic accent. Wielding a 9-millimeter pistol, she is accused of demanding controlled substances and prescription painkillers, which she received from nurses.
Mullins also allegedly robbed a bank for $3,000 on May 22, according to local news reports. After the Teays Valley robbery, detectives say she took an extended leave of absence, which triggered their suspicions.
If found guilty, Mullins faces a mandatory minimum of 32 years in prison, a life in prison sentence and a fine of up to $1.5 million.
