As nursing home administrators transition to electronic health records from paper records, the American Health Information Management Association has released best practice standards for the new method.

The standards address implementing electronic signatures, core data sets for the physician practice electronic health record, and speech recognition in the electronic health record.

AHIMA will develop practice standards in other electronic health record areas on a quarterly basis. Six guidance reports are available at www.ahima.org/infocenter/ehim.
