Advocat posts higher earnings in the second quarter

Advocat Inc. earned $2.5 million in the second quarter 2004, compared with a loss of $7.8 million in the year-ago quarter. Quarterly revenue increased 6% to $52 million, compared with $49 million in the year-ago quarter.

The Franklin, TN-based company attributed the growth to higher patient revenues, increased Medicare utilization and a hike in Medicare rates.
Advocat Inc. provides long-term care services to nursing home patients and residents of assisted living facilities in nine states, primarily in the Southeast.
