2 dead after blaze at senior living facility in Dallas
Two people died in a massive fire in a Dallas senior living center early Wednesday.
Firefighters first arrived at the Gatewood Apartments complex at about 2:45 a.m., according to local news sources. Ultimately, more than 150 firefighters helped about 300 residents to safety, rescuing some from windows and balconies.
However, two bodies were discovered in the fourth-floor unit, where the fire likely started, Dallas Fire-Rescue officials told local reporters. As of Thursday afternoon, authorities had not released the victims' names or confirmed that they were residents.
Three residents were hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening, related to smoke inhalation and breathing issues, Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans said.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze, which has displaced the building's residents. The owners of the facility have made arrangements to place everyone at hotels or with family, according to local ABC affiliate WFAA. Some residents say they did not hear smoke alarms, the station reported.
