Attends Underpads

Incontinence management remains a hot commodity in long-term care, with three companies debuting products.

TENA began promoting its new Stretch 3XL Bariatric Brief, which features a high-rise design and larger waist size, during the NADONA conference in June. The brief is designed for those with morbid obesity who need a high absorbency and ultra-dry incontinence product.

The product has a waist size of 69 to 96 inches and a higher rise. New, fully breathable side stretch panels allow air and body heat to easily circulate, while full-length hook and loop clasps enable more secure product fastening.

“Caregivers are challenged to have in place protocols and care programs that are effective and safe both for the bariatric resident and the care provider,” noted Eric Cohen, Absorbent Product Manager, SCA Personal Care North America.

The company also announced in May that the TENA Identifi is in the final stages of regulatory clearance in the U.S. The device uses sensors to capture a resident’s voiding patterns. The reusable Identifi Logger is silent and attaches to the sensor wear.

Medline Industries also displayed the SIM® (Smart Incontinence Management) at the NADONA meeting. The product offers a way to assess and manage the continence needs of residents in long-term care facilities.

SIM, which is distributed and marketed through Medline via a partnership with Australian company Simavita, captures information through a technologically advanced sensor inserted in a specially designed continence liner. The sensor is connected to a Wi-Fi network, which remotely monitors the voiding patterns.

SIM also electronically captures notes and additional observations from the caregivers on a computer tablet, which is part of the care plan.

Finally, the Attends All-on-one Underpads have entered the market, featuring a design that makes them stronger and more easily identifiable.

The underpad, ASBM-3036, is six times stronger than standard underpads, according to the company, and has a thicker topsheet and new purple backsheet, which makes it easier to identify during laundry.
