The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services instituted a number of payment-related policies that went into effect April 1.

Failure to keep up with the changes could be costly for providers, experts warned, so CMS released a memo to clarify a number of questions from skilled nursing facility operators.

The memo clarifies issues pertaining to assessment reference dates (ARDs) and combined assessments; setting the ARD for unscheduled PPS assessments; penalties for early change of therapy (COT) assessments; missed unscheduled PPS assessments; completing the interview on unscheduled PPS assessments and a handful of other other policies.
