Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay, a Virginia continuing care retirement community, has won the 2016 National LeadingAge Award for Excellence in Research and Education for its work with It’s Never 2 Late.

The award will be presented at the LeadingAge National Conference in November in Indianapolis.

The CCRC, in collaboration with Eastern Virginia Medical School and Virginia Wesleyan College, was involved in a 24-week study called The Birdsong Initiative.

The results of the study also revealed a clinically significant reduction of antipsychotic drug doses among 40% of the people in the intervention group.

The Birdsong Initiative is discussing similar studies for assisted living and independent living residents.
