Labor unions were more successful at recruiting healthcare workers in 2005 than they were the year before, according to a new human resources study.

Organized labor won 71% of elections overseen in healthcare overseen by the National Labor Relations Board in 2005. That is slightly up from 67% a year earlier, says a report by the American Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration and IRI Consultants to Management.

The Service Employees International Union currently has more than 1.7 million members nationwide, including 145,000 nursing home workers. It ranks as the most active recruiter of healthcare workers.
