Working too long and too hard is a common occurrence, but it's quite simply wrong. The number of hours you put in on the job does not measure your passion or commitment to your work.
Being selected to participate in the 2015 LeadingAge Leadership Academy was quite a surprise to me this summer. I applied thinking there was little chance I would be accepted. Fortunately, I was, and I'm fresh off the plane from my first experience with this Academy.

I am reminded of my age often, whether it's when meeting peers, working with residents or even introducing myself to families. I have to earn respect quickly and, in some ways, have to convince them I deserve to be here. I'm sure that feeling will vanish over time, and I continue to learn every day.
