CMS: Demonstration project to reward nursing homes that provide high-quality care

The National Labor Relations Board has delayed the implementation of one of its most controversial recent rulings from Nov. 14, 2011 to Jan. 31, 2012.

The extension was granted “in order to allow for enhanced education and outreach to employers, particularly those who operate small- and medium-sized businesses,” the NLRB stated.

In late August, the board passed a regulation requiring employers to post unionization information and notices about collective bargaining rights. Following the ruling, the NLRB said it received questions and inquiries from businesses and trade groups regarding which kinds of businesses are under the board’s jurisdiction. The board also said it is seeking to enhance voluntary compliance.

The ruling sparked an outcry from long-term care provider groups who say LTC workers are increasingly being targeted by unions. The unionization of nursing home workers could lead to higher costs and fragmented care for seniors, these groups contend.
