Senate Finance Committee Chairman Charles E. Grassley (R-IA) wants details of states’ use of consultants to gain more Medicaid funding.

In a July 14 letter to governors of 50 states and the District of Columbia, he asks governors to report whether they are using Medicaid consultants and how they are using them. He also wants to know how they are spending the additional federal funds the consultants help to procure for them.

The use of consultants is just one tactic the government would like to curb to rein in Medicaid spending costs. Another is transferring assets to gain Medicaid coverage for nursing home costs.
