A former nursing home worker in Oklahoma might only have been joking when he threatened to behead a colleague, but he still could spend 10 years in prison if convicted on “terrorism hoax” charges, according to local reports.

Jacob Mugambi Muriithi was arrested on Sept. 26. The 30-year-old from Kenya subsequently admitted that he had threatened to behead a coworker at the 62-bed Bellevue Health and Rehabilitation Center, the Tulsa World reported. However, he claimed that he was only joking and is not really a supporter of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, as he had told the coworker.

Muriithi’s arrest came one day after a fired worker allegedly beheaded a woman at Vaughn Foods in the nearby town of Moore, OK. The nursing home incident has not been linked to the events at Vaughn Foods.

Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater “personally” approved the felony charge against Muriithi, according to the World.

Bellevue “promptly terminated” Muriithi after he made his threats, according to a statement emailed to McKnight’s.
