Two days after receiving a letter from U.S. Senators Herb Kohl (D-WI) and Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Florida Secretary of State Kurt S. Browning has agreed to allow officers from the Government Accountability Office access to its polling places on Election Day.

Kohl and Feinstein had commissioned a survey from the GAO to study the actions states are taking to help facilitate voting among the disabled and residents of long-term care facilities next Tuesday. Florida reportedly was the only state in the national survey to deny the agency access to its polling places. The polling places to be surveyed are located in four Florida counties: Miami-Dade, Broward, Pinellas and Hillsborough.

Browning said he isn’t authorized to grant GAO researchers access to enter Florida’s polling places. But he said he would forward the request to the election supervisors in the four Florida counties and encourage them to grant access to the GAO. Browning’s “prompt response is encouraging,” Kohl said in a statement praising Browning’s decision.
