Erin Lacey, RN, has become the latest graduate nursing student to receive a $20,000 scholarship from Evercare, a division of UnitedHealth Group. A registered nurse, Lacey is pursuing a master’s degree in the Adult Health-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner program at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

“Among the most needed clinicians in the coming decades will be nurse practitioners specializing in gerontology,” said Neville E. Strumpf, Ph.D., R.N., a Penn professor in gerontology and the director of the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence.

Strumpf said nursing grants such as Evercare’s scholarship will help create specialists who can better assess problems related to diabetes, stroke, arthritis, memory loss and other conditions that commonly affect the elderly. The scholarships are awarded to graduate nursing students who study ways to improve healthcare delivery in long-term care settings.

Evercare also is an educational session and booth sponsor for next week’s McKnight’s Online Expo. The unique, free event is being held for all LTC stakeholders March 14-15.

Registrants can participate in five interactive webcast sessions. They also can scan online booths from industry vendors and talk live to company representatives.
