Medication shortages continue to be a challenge for nursing facilities and other providers. This week, a group of stakeholders told the Food & Drug Administration to deal with the issue more aggressively. Specifically, they called on the agency to create a national drug registry, assess how current requirements impede access — and improve communication with stakeholders. Providers said medication shortages are being caused by several problems. These include industry consolidation, manufacturing delays, supply constraints and a lack of raw materials.
