The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services will make available quality data on health plans participating in its dual eligibles demonstration program while it develops a star rating system, the agency announced last week.

Quality data from the Medicare-Medicaid plans, including how the plans compare to each other, will be posted beginning in 2016. The move is a temporary solution while CMS develops a quality star rating system for the MMPs. The star ratings will reflect the “full spectrum of Medicare and Medicaid services,” including long-term services and supports, the agency said in a November 6 memo.

“We believe this interim solution provides consumers and researchers with useful performance data while we construct the MMP star rating system,” the memo stated.

The posting of data will continue during “subsequent years” of the Medicare-Medicaid demonstration, which is currently operating in 13 states. The demonstration was first launched in 2011.
