A new wage index could be in the works for long-term care, the American Health Care Association disclosed Monday at the association’s annual conference.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services currently is reviewing recommendations from the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), which issued its report in June, said Peter Gruhn, director of research for AHCA. Among MedPAC’s recommendations: establish a new hospital compensation index and use the index for the skilled nursing facility and home health prospective payment systems (PPS).

Today marks the third day of AHCA’s conference, which is being held in Boston. Political analysts James Carville and Mary Matalin this morning will present the opening general session of the show, which has drawn approximately 3,000 attendees.
