Administrators at the embattled Motion Picture and Television Fund nursing home violated California state laws when they relocated dozens of residents last year, the Los Angeles Times reported.
State inspectors say that administrators at the Hollywood nursing home did not give the requisite 30-day notice of discharge to more than 30 residents, the Times reported. These notices are to inform residents of their rights, including the right to appeal the decision to relocate them, and are required under both California and federal law. Furthermore, the fund had promised to issue the notices in its plan for closure filed with the California Department of Public Health.
The fund’s administrators defended their decision not to issue the notices, arguing that they were unnecessary because the transfers were voluntary, according to the Times. Still, members of a group, Saving the Lives of Our Own, which is dedicated to advocating on behalf of the MPTF nursing home residents, say it’s time for a change of leadership at the organization.
