ACT.md, which has a care coordination platform for complex patients, said it received $8.4 million in Series A funding through Rose Park Advisors, an investment firm.

ACT.md was created after physicians observed “dropped handoffs,” according to co-founder Kenneth Mandl, M.D., Harvard Medical School professor and director of the Boston Children’s Hospital Computational Health Informatics Program.

The system uses cloud-based technology to connect members of the care team and to scale best practice workflows. It is HIPAA-compliant and can let nurses, physicians and other clinical staff better manage complex patients, the company said.
