A Congressional briefing aimed at bettering care at the end of life, and for those with serious illness will take place at 3:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday at the Russell Senate Office Building in Washington.

Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and Rep. Phil Roe (R-TN) will headline a list of presenters that include key figures in the palliative care landscape, experts in advanced care issues and the president-elect of AARP, among others.

Organizers say the event will focus on three key policy areas:

• Enhancing the availability of patient’s advance care plans across settings so that these important documents are available when most needed most

• Strengthening the quality measures for palliative care and care near the end of life to better assess the services that patients receive

• Improving the models for delivering palliative care and care near the end of life

The “Improving Serious Illness and End-of-Life Care: Opportunities for Congressional Action” briefing is being hosted by the Pew Charitable Trusts and the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC).
