Members of the healthcare industry, and much of the rest of America, will turn their attention to the nation’s capital next week, when Congress and the White House will inject new life into the fight over healthcare reform. The House has already passed a reform bill, which long-term care operators fear for its proposed funding cuts. The Senate has yet to pass a bill. Lawmakers’ month-long recess, which was filled with raucous town hall meetings around the nation, ends Tuesday. On Wednesday, President Obama will address a rare joint gathering of Congress to restate his case for reform. Republican rivals have derided the president’s proposals as being too expensive.
