The American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living declared their support for the Long-Term Care Affordability and Security Act of 2009 (S. 702). The recently introduced bill would allow long-term care insurance to be offered under cafeteria plans and flexible spending arrangements.

“This bill is an initial step towards boosting Americans’ ability to save for and ultimately fund the long term care services that best meets their needs,” said Dave Kyllo executive director of NCAL, in a statement.

The bill, which Sen. Charles Grassley (R-IA) introduced late last month, would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to change the way long-term care insurance is offered. It also would provide additional consumer protections for long-term care insurance. AHCA noted that the bill is in line with its comprehensive healthcare reform proposal.
