A high-profile long-term care quality group has begun search plans for another new executive director, just six months after filling the position previously.

Advancing Excellence in Long-Term Care Collaborative, which oversees the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign, notified stakeholders by email last weekend that Joseph Isaacs, who began in November, was no longer with the organization.

“It just wasn’t a fit,” Isaacs told McKnight’s Tuesday. “I gave it my best shot. I hope that my efforts to move Advancing Excellence forward strategically will continue to be pursued.”

In a joint statement, Cheryl Phillips, M.D., and David Gifford, M.D., the co-chairmen of the campaign, said the Advancing Excellence Board of Directors would be designing a search process over the next several weeks.

“Advancing Excellence is a major initiative focused on the most important thing we do as a profession: provide quality care,” the statement said. “The leader of this effort plays an important role coordinating the many partners we have involved and we will approach this process with that in mind.”

It was not clear Tuesday whether an interim executive director would be appointed.

Both Phillips and Gifford were complimentary of Isaacs in a McKnight’s January profile, commenting on his passion and organizational skills. Isaacs previously held executive leadership positions at the United Spinal Association, the American Occupational Therapy Association, and Resolve: The National Infertility Association. At Advancing Excellence, he replaced Carol Benner, who retired after six years in the position.
